Challenge: Space Dynamics Laboratory, a Utah State University Research facility partners with NASA the government. SDL performs advanced scientific research and develops cutting edge space technology to further national defense and scientific discovery. SDL is relatively small and at the time I worked for them, they were branding themselves as a small company with a big impact.

Solution: In order to argue our efficacy as a smaller university affiliated research center, I played up the idea that sometimes smaller can be better. I used words that emphasized the important role of “smaller” as well as some humor to drive home the point and make it memorable. Sometimes an excess of technical jargon can get lost in the mix, so by using common every day ideas , mild humor, and taking advantage of our status as the underdog the messages won’t be easily forgotten.
